Keiser University - Institutional RepositoryRELACIÓN ENTRE EL DETERIORO COGNITIVO Y LA DEPRESIÓN EN ADULTOS MAYORES QUE ASISTIERON A LA IGLESIA DEL NAZARENO EN MANAGUA,DURANTE EL PERÍODO DE MARZO-ABRIL 2026Mariangela GuadalupeAlmendárez GonzálezauthorEl presente estudio tiene como objetivo determinar la relación entre el deterioro cognitivo y la depresión en una muestra de 32 adultos mayores que asistían regularmente a tres sedes de la Iglesia del Nazareno en Managua durante el período de marzo-abril 2026, utilizando un enfoque cuantitativo, de diseño no experimental, de corte transversal y alcance descriptivo-correlacional, mediante la aplicación del Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) y la Escala de Depresión Geriátrica de Yesavage (GDS-15) con análisis de estadística descriptiva e inferencial. Los resultados indicaron que el 34.4% presentó posible deterioro cognitivo y el 40.6% posible depresión, encontrándose una correlación negativa, de baja magnitud y estadísticamente significativa entre ambas variables (rho = -0.388; p = 0.028), por lo que se concluye que a mayor sintomatología depresiva, menor funcionamiento cognitivo, destacando la importancia de implementar estrategias de detección temprana e intervención oportuna en adultos mayores. --------------------- This study aims to determine the relationship between cognitive impairment and depression in a sample of 32 older adults who regularly attended three Church of the Nazarene locations in Managua during March and April 2016. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational approach was used, employing the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) with descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results indicated that 34.4% presented possible cognitive impairment and 40.6% possible depression. A statistically significant, low-magnitude negative correlation was found between the two variables (rho = -0.388; p = 0.028). Therefore, it was concluded that greater depressive symptoms were associated with lower cognitive functioning, highlighting the importance of implementing early detection and timely intervention strategies for older adults.Psychology [BF]Affection.
