--------------------- This study aims to determine the relationship between cognitive impairment and depression in a sample of 32 older adults who regularly attended three Church of the Nazarene locations in Managua during March and April 2016. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational approach was used, employing the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) with descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results indicated that 34.4\% presented possible cognitive impairment and 40.6\% possible depression. A statistically significant, low-magnitude negative correlation was found between the two variables (rho = -0.388; p = 0.028). Therefore, it was concluded that greater depressive symptoms were associated with lower cognitive functioning, highlighting the importance of implementing early detection and timely intervention strategies for older adults.}, keywords = {Deterioro cognitivo, depresi{\'o}n, adultos mayores, salud mental.
